Mothers And Daughters Friend Or Foe

There is a special relationship between Mother and daughter. One of the most surprising facts about this unique relationship is that it can go either way. Some daughters enjoy a special friendship with their Mothers, as they grow older. Others form intense rivalries with a love hate type of relationship.

There are many factors that will have a bearing on this special relationship. Much of it will be a question of how secure the Mother feels about her marriage. It is common knowledge that daughters are often quite close to their Fathers and sometimes the Mother feels threatened by another female, even if it is her daughter.

A Mother can feel that her daughter is taking time away from her by monopolizing her husband. Some daughters do indeed take possession of their Fathers and use them as a way to wield power in the household and get their way. In fact little girls who manipulate their Fathers can very likely grow up into manipulative women.

Some daughters love their Fathers so much that they in turn do not want to let them go. They consider all women to be their rivals including their Mothers. This leads to a very unhealthy relationship between Mother and daughter. This will lead to the daughter and Mother in effect fighting over the Father. The Mother may become bitter and start to interfere with her daughter's relationships, this intensifies the Mother and daughter rivalry.

Sometimes this rivalry can take such a bitter turn that it endangers the whole family unity and threatens to break a marriage. Daughters who experience this will pass these feelings onto a relationship and often be very possessive about their partner. They will view all women as their enemies and be suspicious of their partner, especially when any women are nearby.

Mothers and daughters can experience rivalry and competition in other ways. Some women are naturally competitive and will always be trying to outshine another woman, even if it is their daughter and visa versa.

However there is another side to this coin. Some Mothers are wonderful role models to their daughters and their daughters love respect, and almost revere them. Daughters look up to their mothers and model themselves on them. This is especially true of little girls, as they copy Mummy's clothes and try to wear her make up and jewelry. These girls will often have a close and loving relationship with their Mothers.

As the daughters get bigger they will not revere their Mothers so much and will often become good friends with them. Their Mothers become their confidents and they draw support from their love and wisdom.

As their Mothers age, daughters are often the ones to nurture and look after them, just as they looked after them when they were small. They use all the love and care of their experiences to share with their aging Mother.

Close bonding with their Mothers make daughters more loving and caring. Their maternal instincts are strong and they will pass these onto a relationship. These women will often make very loving and caring partners.

So remember to take this into consideration when forming a relationship. How you view your Mother can also have a great bearing on forming a good relationship with your partner.
