Pitted Acne Scar

If you've been suffering from moderate to severe acne breakouts for any period of time, you know how unsightly and annoying a pitted acne scar can be. These scars are deeper in the skin and have left 'dents' and underlying scar tissue. Of all the types of acne scarring the pitted variety the most challenging to get rid of. The good news is that while challenging, it's not impossible.

Here are some things you can do to help reduce the appearance of, or remove entirely, those acne scars on your face;

1. Increase the blood flow to the affected area. Scars are made up of a thick connective tissue which is scar tissue. To help encourage your skins natural healing properties you need to keep the oxygen and blood circulation strong and vigorous. To do that you can use a simple massage of your facial skin. Not only will this help stimulate your skins own recuperative properties, it feels good too! Just go in circular motions with even pressure around your scarred areas. You can do this twice a day for a few minutes each time.

2. Laser treatments can direct a laser into your lower skin layers which will help break up the scar tissues. This therapy can also increase the growth of elastin and collagen which will help our skin rejuvenate itself more quickly. Laser therapy can be costly, but most people recommend it as a great way to deal with acne scarring, especially the deep pitted scarring. You will most likely need several treatments and you can expect some irritation at the site of the procedure. This method will also help repair any discoloration you may have from your acne.

3. Chemical peels can also help, though generally they're not as effective for the deep scars. During this treatment your face will have chemicals applied to it that will basically 'burn' off the top layer of skin. This will eventually remove the damaged skin which will be replaced with new growth that will be free of scarring and imperfections.

4. Micro-dermabrasion will exfoliate your skin removing the damaged skin and allowing your new growth healthy skin to appear. This isn't a one time procedure and you will need to repeat the process many times to get the desired results.

Of course it's very important that you take good care of your skin all the time. Make sure you cover up when you're out in the sun. You can wear a hat but you should also use a high numbered SPF sunscreen. Don't make the mistake of thinking just because it's overcast you can't get burned... you can. Also make sure you take care of your skin by providing it, and your whole body, with the proper nutrients and moisture. Eat right and drink plenty of water.

If you are concerned with clearing your skin and getting rid of the pitted acne scar, you have choices. Which option you choose is up to you and your preference as well as the time and money involved in each technique. Just be willing to follow through on whatever solution you choose. Some work better than others, and you may need to try a few things before you find the one that is right for you. Be patient, and good luck.
